Indian Police Academy

The Police training Institute at the National level is the one established for IAS Officers  situated at Hyderabad, which is called Sardar Vallab bhai Patel National Police Academy, named after the first Home Minister of Independent India, who was responsible for merger of many princely States by his brainy counselling and brave actions.

Training
Those who secure their selections through All India Civil Services Examinations undergo training in the National Police Academy. After training in NPA the IPS officers are posted in the category of Additional Superintendent of Police in the States, to work along with the other cadres of Police departments in the States. The Police personnel in the categories from Constables through Sub-Inspectors and Inspectors are recruited by the State machinery functioning under the Director Generals of Police, while the selection of IPS Cadre positions is vested with the Home Ministry of the Government of India . The appointment and removal of an IPS Officer can only be done by the President of India.


The Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel Police Academy conducts also three in-service programmes, apart from its basic function of training IPS Officers. These training programmes relate to Superintendents of Police, Deputy Inspector Generals of Police and Inspector Generals of Police. Apart from this NPA conducts few other training programmes which include specialised short thematic courses , apart from Seminars and Workshops conducted on need based professional requirements.
This academy is affiliated to Osmania University and besides IPS officers, and other Civil Service Examination outputs, many  Government agencies such as Army, Judiciary, PSUs, Nationalised Banks, Insurance companies, avail the Services of NPA for training their senior personnel.


History
The Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel National Police Academy was establishes on 15th September 1948
