Kolkata Traffic Police

Kolkata Traffic Police, a unit of the Kolkata Police, manages the traffic flow in the Indian city of Kolkata, formerly known as Calcutta.
The city having 10% road space is managed by a traffic police team of 2 deputy commissioners, 8 assistant commissioners, inspectors, sergeants, assistant sub-inspectors and constables.

The policing of the city traffic are done by a division consisting of 25 Traffic Guards. They are

The co-ordination of the field work of 14 guards as well as traffic arrangements for special occasion and piloting is done by the Traffic Control room, which functions round the clock.

Cases of serious street accidents involving deaths are investigated by the fatal squad. The Traffic Department also organises Road safety programmes. Training on traffic control, regulation as well as signalling is imported to traffic police personnel by the Traffic Training School.
