On 16th of October, 2007 it became the red letter day as the crime branch of Nagpur Police was awarded the prestigious certifications of  ISO 9001:2000, ceremony held at Gymkhana, Civil Lines in Nagpur presided over by Commissioner of Police who was also awarded this certification.Dr. Singh in his speech mentioned the importance of a award which would be conducive in their commitment to serve the community and is a token of respect for the dedication showed by the Nagpur Police towards their duty, at the same time the increase in the responsibilities were also increased two fold to keep up the good work of the past. He also stressed upon the continual improvement for enforcement of law and harmony and bringing about safety and security.

Some of the new steps that Nagpur Police Department has initiated are:

  • Striking Forces: Until now, 8 striking forces would be working under the supervision of 8 ACPs (divisional) meant basically for patrolling, prevention of crime and maintaining law and order.
  • Beat Patrolling: Police Station areas will be divided in 5 to 6 beats where in every beat will be patrolled by commandoes who are armed.
  • Traffic: with 2 new traffic sections and 55 beats identified where patrolling will be done by the policemen who will additionally be checking flouting traffic rules and booking them
  • Numbers Helpline Cell: 2 new helpline numbers mobile numbers 9657050005 and 9657050007 have also been introduced by Police of Nagpur for immediate control for police control.
  • Email Facility: Public can contact through the following email id where full confidentiality shall be maintained cybercell@nagpurpolice.nic.in
  • SMS Alerts: Nagpur citizens can also join the department of Nagpur police to receive the alert messages on SMS, the procedure is provided on the website.
  • Educating The Public: Police of Nagpur has been encouraging shop owners (Malls, Banks, Jewelers, Electronic Goods Item etc.,) for installing electronic security systems such as CCTV, Alarm Systems. individual owners and Housing societies would be provided adequate training to use these systems.

Nagpur Police Recruitment

To join Nagpur Police Department, three entry levels are there where the process will be different which include Constable, Police Sub-Inspector / Deputy Superintendent of Police or from the Indian Police Service (IPS). For Constables there would be a system of yearly recruitment and would be selected once they fulfill the criteria set upon by the rules of administration which includes test such as written and physical examinations. For PSI and DySP, it is advised to look out the postings listed out in all local and national newspapers by Maharashtra Public Services Commission (MPSC) wherein MPSC procedures will be followed for recruitment. For candidates who wish to join several other posts from Indian Police Services (IPS), the whole process would be looked over by Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) wherein UPSC procedures would be followed.
