Orissa Police

Orissa Police is the embodiment of law and order and is the agency that enforces law in the Indian state of Orissa. Orissa police is headquartered in Cuttack. Orissa Police department comes under direct supervision of Department of Home Affairs, Government of Orissa and is lead by Director General of Police DGP.Since the day of inception of Orissa State on 1st April, 1936 Orissa Police Department was established with an aim to provide law and order support to people of Orissa, to which Orissa Police have established outposts even in the remotest and upcountry locations. The present D.G.P or Director General of Orissa Police is Mr. Amarananda Pattanayaka who assumed office on 1st September, 2006.

Mission And Visions Of Orissa Police

  • Police Commissionerate remains committed for enforcement of law and maintain order, investigating crime, avoid antisocial elements to do so and thus maintain communal /societal accord.
  • Police Commissionerate promises to bring an efficient traffic management with an overview for smooth traffic flow along with minimizing road accidents and other untoward activities.
  • Police Commissionerate strives to work in co-ordination with community trying to be the vanguards of the marginalized and the needed section of the society especially the weak and indigent, women and children, senior citizens and juveniles, downtrodden and marginalized.
  • Police of Orissa shall maintain full transparency following the pledge to undertake the corruption free environment providing growth to socio-economic development of the state and thus the common people.
  • Police of Orissa shall be receptive to the changes always on the front for an overall continuous development both on personal, team and institutional front always craving for technological advances along with accepting scientific advances and infusing them in practice.
  • Orissa Police promise to look after the well being and interests of police men and their families.

Orissa Police is currently recruiting 1878 police constables and various other posts, which was duly advertised in Samaj and Pragatibadi newspaper, but due to some disputes was stalled after Orissa high court cancelled it initially which was given an approval after sometime for Orissa Police. If applicants have already applied earlier they need not do so rather even fresh and previously rejected candidates can also apply. Orissa Police Department is therefore currently recruiting 1878 police constables from various districts of Orissa.
