Around late fifties it was strongly felt for certain reforms in Punjab Police, therefore in 1961 a commission was set up headed by an ex-Chief Justice of India who submitted its report around in May 1962, some of them being Scientific Laboratory for crime clue's examination and research centre under Director, Forensic Science Laboratory, better human resource development schemes were some of the main points recommended.

It has been a long distance since then Punjab Police Department has advanced whether it was handling the ultra susceptible mass migration from and to during partition India and Pakistan, the dacoit problems in fifties, naxalite violence in sixties/seventies or it is to cordon the borders shared with Pakistan or China both of them extreme barren and inhospitable and unfriendly, Punjab Police Department has been a winner till mid – sixties operated by Punjab Armed Police Battalions till Border Security Force was introduced. The bravery of Police of Punjab can be imagined that they bore the onslaught during the war of 1962 and 1965, and in recent years it faced the biggest challenge of terrorism in Punjab during which almost 20,000 people lost their lives during 1981-1994, during the process state of art technology modern communication equipment, well-equipped scientific labs, more responsive police personnel has also been imbibed in the society.

Punjab Police pledges to prevent or root out the crime, enforcement of law and order providing safety and security working under the directives of Indian Constitution and Rule of law and being receptive for scientific and technology in the system.
